I’ve been creative ever since I can remember,” “The first time I picked up a paintbrush, I knew I was going to be an artist,” “I’ve been drawing since I was 3 years old”. This is not Katie’s story. Katie started making work five years ago as an 18-year-old high school senior in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Still not convinced to continue making work after, she planned to enter a liberal arts education to study Psychology. As school approached she made a gut decision to switch paths and get her BFA in Fine Arts. This kind of decision making has always been how she maneuvers through life. Making marks and split decisions that are spontaneous yet deliberate, sometimes aloof but always confident and decisive. Through painting she involves herself in a uniquely honest process that speaks of the human experience in a disillusioned manner, mark after mark. Each piece its own understanding of circumstance and life. The result, compositions that are grungy, primal, emotional, and sometimes beautiful (or just plan chaotic). Katie continues to develop a style that crosses abstraction into realism and realism into the abstract while she enjoys drinking wine and taking care of her two plants.
