Residual Form is an exploration of the art experience. As process becomes more and more a part of the artwork, how much of the artist’s hand do we need to see? How do we define our experience when we must redefine the art object? In this exhibition the questions of the Process Art Movement are being asked by both emerging and established artists.

Encompassed in Residual Form are artworks that question the traditional methods of art viewing through content, creation, or optical illusion. How have contemporary artists embraced or rejected the breakthroughs of artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Jackson Pollack, Bruce Nauman, or even more contemporary work from artists like James Turrell or the duo of Peter Fischli & David Weiss? This includes objects that are remnants of process redefined as art – two dimensional, three dimensional, intangible. Can the mold be as valuable as the casting? The film as valuable as the printed photograph?  How do artists reimagine their process as fine art? Can light, sound, or movement replace an object? Residual Form addresses the contemporary intersection of form and process.
