So, I thought it would be fun to start a “sketch club” (kind of like a book club). I found a great book that outlines a series of sketching lessons appropriate for all levels. The exercises help coordinate hand/eye trust and foster creative thinking, and sound fairly rigorous.
The Drawing Projects: An Exploration of the Language of Drawing by Mick Maslen and Jack Southern.
Starting Tuesday, June 25th I will open the gallery to anyone who would like to stop by and work on a sketch. I will try to post the supplies you will need for each lesson ahead of time (or you can email me if I forget). Usually it is just paper and graphite/pencils. If you can find a copy of the book, I highly recommend it. If you can’t, you can borrow mine for notes.
I’m definitely not teaching the class–I will also be learning as I go along. The lessons seem fairly stand alone, so you can just come to whatever night you are able.
I’ll try to have a dessert/beverage available (if we end up with a steady group, maybe we can take turns bringing snacks).
If you are interested in finding out more or participating, just send me a quick email so I have an idea of how many people might stop by.
I’m really excited about trying out these projects with a group, and I hope that some of you are able to join me!
That sounds like fun! I just tried to order The Drawing Projects this week, but it was backordered. Will try to come on the 25th.
